What we collect
We collect as little as we can to run the site.
You give us:
- An email and message if you write to hello@zazzafras.com
- A name, email, and comment text if you leave a comment (comments may be closed on some posts)
The site and host collect automatically:
- Standard server logs: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, date and time, referring URL
- Cookies or similar storage that WordPress and our host need for the site to work (for example, remembering a logged-in editor)
We do not ask for your Medicare number, Social Security number, bank login, or a photo of your ID. Do not send those.
Comments
If comments are open and you leave one, we store the text you typed, the name and email you entered, your IP address, and your browser user-agent. That is how WordPress fights spam.
An anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to see whether you have a profile photo there. After a comment is approved, that photo can appear next to it.
Comments and their metadata are kept until we delete them. We may close comments on a post at any time.
If you email us, we keep the message long enough to reply and to handle a correction. We do not add you to a newsletter unless you ask. There is no newsletter list yet.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a site stores in your browser.
We use cookies that are needed for the site to function. If we add analytics or advertising later, those services will set their own cookies. You can block cookies in your browser. The site may still work. Some features may not.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and from what kind of device. Google may collect identifiers, approximate location, and usage data as described in Google’s privacy policy.
If Analytics is not connected yet, this section is here so the policy stays accurate when it is.
Advertising
We may use Google AdSense to show ads.
If we do:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on visits to this site and other sites
- Google’s advertising cookies allow Google and its partners to serve ads based on your activity across the web
- You can opt out of personalized ads at https://adssettings.google.com/

Ads are not live on Zazzafras as of the date above. When they are, this page still applies. We will not pretend a banner is part of the article or the navigation.
Other embedded content
Some articles may include a link or embed from another site. That other site may collect data as if you had visited it directly.
How long we keep information
- Server logs: as long as the host retains them for security and operations
- Email: as long as needed to answer you and keep a record of a correction
- Comments: until deleted
- Analytics data: according to the settings in that tool
We do not sell your personal information.
Your choices
You can decline cookies in your browser, opt out of personalized Google ads at adssettings.google.com, and email hello@zazzafras.com to ask what we hold or to ask us to delete it.
If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, you may have additional rights under applicable law. If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under state privacy law. We do not sell personal information for money. Advertising cookies can still count as “sharing” in some states once ads are on.
Children
Zazzafras is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think we have, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
We will update this page when the way we collect or use information changes. The date at the top is the last revision.
